Carmen "Allie" Thompson was not only a talented artist, but a cherished friend and inspiration to many. Her commitment to art and her vibrant spirit touched everyone in her sphere. Allie shared some of her best years at Hendrix cracking jokes with classmates late into the night, earning her degree, and eventually teaching as an adjunct professor of Drawing.
We feel that a fitting way to honor the singular spirit of Allie is with an original work of art to be placed on campus. We have commissioned Hendrix Professor Andrew Huss to design a bench that will be laser cut from stainless steel, inspired by the structure of an easel, and incorporating a stencil of a print completed by Allie while working as a Printing Instructor in the Museum School at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts. This memorial bench will be placed on Hendrix Campus at the entrance of the art complex.
